Trails within Curú.
Inside Curú you can fine different trails that will take you trough different ecosistems. Easily accessible and rich in nature, they will show you several attractions as the white-face monkeys, howler monkeys and spider monkeys. The white tailed deer are abundant in the open areas of grasslands. The trails are simple and there is no risk of getting lost, however hiring a nature guide will allow you to enjoy more your visit, learning about the history and having a better understanding of the different ecosystems that interact in the area.
Birds area undoubtedly a great attraction in the Curú Reserve because not only the resident birds are easy to see, but also the area is visited by a large number of migratory birds, land or water. Depending on the month of your visit you will find different kinds of birds. Among the most common are the Motmot, the Cara Cara, Magpies, woodpeckers, herons and many others.

Ghost crabs appear on the beach at low tide in large numbers, and form a movable red big red carpet in large areas. On the main land multicolored crabs are abundant on both sides of the road in Curu. These crabs ibermate in their holes during the dry season and become active again with the first drops of rain. At the begining of the rainy season the Tajalin Crabs cover most of the area near the ocean. Within the mangroves the most common crab is the Purple Crab.

Within the most common reptiles are Garrobos, Iguanas, Basilisk or Jesus Christ Lizard (for his ability to walk over the water surface) Boa serpents were used by Don Federico at his home of residence as they where the best natural control for rats. He used to say "they where cheaper and more efficient than cats"

The trees are abundant and provide shelter and food for all species at the refuge. The most prominent are the majestic Ceiba which can measure more than forty meters high (120 feet). Orchards of fruit trees are also present and provide much of the food for the different species.
